Undergraduate study - University of Cambridge: 1954-57, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biochemistry;
1957-58, Biochemistry.
Postgraduate study for Ph.D. - University of Cambridge, Biochemistry Dept. 1958-61.
Post-doctoral fellowship, Botany Dept., University of Oxford, 1961-64.
Lecturer, Biochemistry Dept., University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1964-68.
1968 - moved with family to join the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO),
Division of Plant Industry, Canberra, Australia. Eventually became a Chief Research Scientist, and
Assistant Chief of the Division of Plant Industry.
1977 - Doctorate of Science (Sc.D.), University of Cambridge.
1997 - left CSIRO to concentrate on business interests (Clonakilla vineyard and winery) and to continue research in ocean optics as Kirk Marine Optics.
